January 13, 2013

Mom: Dee Dee moves into her apt on the 25th so it will be quiet around here after that. Karlene is in the chorus for Music Man, at school. Faline and I will be rejoining Walkers, singing on Tuesdays. We got Alex his shots and scheduled his appt for getting fixed and de-clawed!!! He really needs to have those front claws removed. He attacked my leg this morning and tore a hole in my panty hose. Grrrr. Dad is supposed to go in for a drug test tomorrow so I guess he's closer to having the position with CX Northwest and working with Adam Walker. Michael got two wisdom teeth pulled Wednesday and had his interview with the bishop today. I saw a video on Singapore that talked about a shopping district that started with 'B' and ended with 'is' that looked like somewhere you might find souvenirs in to send home. This winter is one of the most normal winters we've had in a long time! We've had snow and enough cold to keep the ground white. There was even a snow day last Thursday so Karlene got to stay home. We sold all the girl goats to the neighbors that we invited to the temple open house. They are nice people. The hay is almost gone so we need to find the males new owners by the time it is gone.Elder Andrew Bingham, previously from Homedale 1st ward, gave his mission report today and Dee Dee gave her farewell talk. President Cannon, Idaho Boise Mission President, bore his testimony. It was a good meeting! President Cannon used to be head of Beneficial Life so we've met him before and have enjoyed him when he spoke, in and out of church. Elder Bingham said that he was having trouble with companions, among other problems. When he decided to quit thinking about himself and put his whole focus into becoming the Doctrine of Christ and helping others that he didn't have those 'problems' anymore.
Dad: Well, before long there will be three missionaries in the family. They haven't set me apart yet but I have been asked to be a ward missionary. I think it will be fun.
MichaelTo be contradicting, it's not a a ketch phrase it's a closing statement. I am pleased to say that I got my teeth pulled and a digital camera. Now I'm in the final stages of getting my papers in and I'll have to think about sending you photos.
Karlenethank you for  the advice, it really came in handy. i got my first out of house babysitting job and got 7 dollars an hour for 2 kids. i was there for four hours. i watched mulan 2 with them because they had borrowed from their neighbor. the parents went to the temple and i got permission to make cookies. i was about to put the  recipe together when i saw that they had no brown sugar.
FalineAlex got shot Friday but he didn't die. He got his kitten shots and rabies shot, getting ready to be an inside cat. Soon he's going to get de-clawed and fixed. On Tuesday I get to sing again.

January 7, 2013

I wish there was something I could do to help with any of it.  I hope me being on a mission helps a little. You'll need to send me pictures of the new place.

To Dad:  I bought a photo album for some to the pictures I have had printed off.  I'll be sending a letter via snail mail soon well as soon as I get stamps.  I haven't gotten the pictures I'm going to send ready yet and I need to still look into the cost of sending a heavy box.  Did you have any companions that made it so you looked forward to transfers?  I only missed a couple days in Journaling but for the most part I've been on top of it, at least a sentence a day usually more.

Dad: Most of my companions were pretty good. But there was one that I was glad when I was transferred out. I thought I'd write back while it was fresh on my mind, I'll still send a letter next Sunday. I don't think that there's anybody who doesn't have a companion some time that they have trouble with. As you move on you're going to have roommates you won't get along with. Remember what Grandma Simpson always used to quote, "And this, too, will pass."

To Karlene: My favorite way to get over writers block is to write about something else or work on a different story.  I'll have some interesting stories when I get back and not just about the mission, I have some story ideas waiting for when I get home.  I miss you too.

Dee Dee is moving into her apt on the 25th of this month. It will be nice having a quiet house again but will be a little harder to just take off without making sure Faline is taken care of. She's getting the same floor plan minus the upstairs bedroom/suite. She's a little nervous about it and planning every little detail, not just budget but also space and decor.

This is a picture of the apt we want but it's only showing 1135 sq ft instead of 1305 sq ft but it's basically the floor plan. The master bedroom has a folding door mid-wall that opens so that we can look down on the living room, like a loft, and that funny looking square thing near the word 'open' is a fireplace (mostly for atmosphere, not heat). Also, there is a ceiling fan in the master bedroom. Both bedrooms have a walk-in closet and the utility room has several shelves like we have in the garage where we keep the garden stuff for pantry storage. Potentially, this is the goal in 5 or 6 months, to move out of the house into something smaller, without critters and property.

Mom: It was nice, even though I didn't think I would like it, to have church at 9am. There is SO much day left! I kept waking up every 1/2 hr starting at 6am to make sure we didn't sleep in too long. We got up a little later than usual since it was fast Sunday.

Dad: Well, we gave away the chickens to Colletts. We have more on order but they are for butchering -- we might give them away, too. I hope you are having fun and taking lots of pictures and writing in your journal every day. You might want to think about posting some of those pictures in your journal as you write about them. There will be a lot of fine memories.

Karlene: when you are writing what is one way to get over writers block? please give some advice, i could use it. i miss you.

Conversation between Michael and Summer

Michael:

I went to work for most of the week and spent the week end with what I think is a cold, it's okay I could be stuck with the eboli vris. I have the money to finish my paper, now all I have to do is get a tooth pulled. Mom wonts me to right detail when I'm on my mission, thanks for ruining it for me. Right now I'm longing for times new romman because this font doesn't do "I's" the way I like. Besides that life is great.
 Till next time

Summer:
You caught on my catch phrase.  I do the best I can on detail.  You are the worst at it tho.  I need to know about your call so the moment you get it open and have an hour you need to tell me ALL about it.  Oh, dear, I just about started typing to you in Japanese.  Next time I email I'll send pictures and you'll need to send me pictures from your mission also .  Till next time.

Love,
Sis Summer Ballantyne

Yeah, the quilts got finished.  I kind of left them incomplete. Today I'm going to the aquarium, the closest I will get to being in the water on my mission, and Sentosa (aka Pleasure Island).  Wow, it looks like you got a lot of cool stuff.  Here are some lego pictures for you.  The Lego exibit turned out to be not for all ages but I can still send some pictures from it.  Hope your new years is a good one.  I'll try to get a letter composed and mailed out as soon as posible.  Oh, I found the statue of Liberty here. It rained on Christmas and it might rain today and tomorrow also. Till next time...

Christmas tree before we opened everything

Hazy, snowy field across the street

We had a nice Christmas. It was sweet getting to talk to you! That's more than I've gotten out of you your entire mission! We got snow on Christmas. It started snowing just before dark, when Cumorah and Ryan were over here for dinner. I'm looking for an apartment to move to in a few months. There's a nice complex over by the Birch building that offers a pool, hot tub, indoor basketball court, fitness center (who needs the Y?), close to the Idaho Center, freeway, shopping, etc. It also offers units with garages as well as covered parking like Cumorah has.

Christmas 2012

We got to talk to Summer on Skype on Christmas Eve, Christmas over in Singapore. We were up at Brett's mom's with all the family who live in Idaho and Oregon. For about 1 or 2 minutes we even got to see her and everyone who wanted to got to at least say 'Hi.' She goes to internet cafes to send emails to us and has about an hour on the computer then has to get off so others can use it. She said that there are 10 wards in Singapore and 1 stake. She lives on the 8th floor of an apartment building with her companion and at least one other companionship. The two baptisms she had were from out of the country, there working. One was from India and the other was from Korea, I think. She said that it's monsoon season so it rains almost every day and is also warm to hot, averaging in the 80s. Most of the traveling around the city/country is on the public transportation system. She said that she probably won't get to go to Brunei unless her mission president decides to appoint sister missionaries to be his assistants and sends them there but they would be there on assignment and not there to stay. Her 1st companion was from Tennessee and her current companion is from Nevada. It was really nice to hear from her!
